A heart attack claimed Richard Lewis’s life. His role on Curb Your Enthusiasm was on television.
Richard received a lot of support on social media on Wednesday from admirers, co-star Larry David, and actress Bette Midler.
The renowned stand-up comedian’s passing was verified by Deadline. His age was seventy-six.
His spokesman then stated that it was due to a heart attack on Tuesday.
Richard rose to fame in the 1980s as a stand-up comedian.
He became well-known after appearing on late-night talk shows such as The Tonight Show, The Late Show With David Letterman, and The Howard Stern Show.
On the popular HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, the actor and television personality portrayed a fictionalized version of himself. In the twelfth season, he reprised the same role with Larry David.
In addition, he starred in television series including The Elevator, Once Upon a Crime, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Anything But Love.
HIS SURGUE AGAINST PARKINSON
Richard discussed his health on his X (previously Twitter) account in April 2023.
“I said, ‘You know, I’m at the top of my game, after 50 years almost, I’m just going to call it quits,’ three and a half years ago, when I was in the middle of a tour.”
“Then, everything went wrong out of the blue.” I underwent three surgeries in quick succession following the first one. I was astounded and found it hard to believe. I know it’s just life, but it was just horrible luck.
“My hip, shoulder, back, and should were all operated on in order of precedence.” I devoted a lot of my time to physical therapy alone.
In addition, two years ago, I began to walk a bit stiffly and shuffling my feet. I went to a neurologist, who performed a brain scan and identified Parkinson’s disease in me.
He said he was fortunate to have discovered the illness early enough for it to develop gradually and that he was taking the appropriate medications to maintain his composure.
He continued by declaring that he wanted to concentrate on writing and acting and that he was done with stand-up comedy.
A TRIBUTION TO LARRY DAVID
Larry honored her on Wednesday in a heartfelt statement that HBO released.
“I was born in the same hospital as Richard, three days apart,” he remarked. All my life, he has been like a brother to me. It was quite uncommon for someone to be the sweetest and funniest all at once.
But he made me cry today, and I will never be able to forgive him for that.
“A COMEDY ICON”
On Curb Your Enthusiasm, Richard’s friends and admirers offered amusing anecdotes and depressing news.
Bette expressed sorrow in her tweet, saying, “The great Richard Lewis has died.”
“A very funny man who we will all miss,” “He is more needed than ever,” actor Albert Brooks remarked.
One of the greatest things about Curb was always Richard Lewis and Larry’s relationship. RIP, a fan commented.
Another added, “Rest in peace to a comedy icon.” “Always Richard Lewis.”
“Richard Lewis wasn’t just funny; he left everything on the table,” remarked a different commenter. He was so endearingly vulnerable. “A good one is gone.”
